VINEYARD NOTES:
The Lodi wine country is defined and influenced by its proximity to the San Francisco Bay situated directly east of San Francisco and at the edge of the Sacramento River Delta. Our head trained Old Vine Zinfandel vineyards were planted in the early 1900’s and are considered to be some of the oldest, yet still producing high quality fruit. As temperatures rise in the Central Valley during the day, cool breezes in the evening are pulled directly across the Lodi region creating a distinctive climate that has allowed premium wine grapes to flourish here for over a century. The vines are planted in well drained, sandy loam soil which, over the course of the season, encourages them to slowly draw water from deep down , producing uniform and well balanced growth. The soil also sits directly in the path of the
cool coastal breeze influence which imparts excellent color and intense fruit flavor to the finished wine.
WINEMAKING NOTES:
We started by picking our 2016 Zinfandel grapes between 25 to 27 Brix looking for the perfect balance
of ripeness, natural acidity and flavors. The grapes were gently de-stemmed and crushed. The wine
was produced using the Flash Détente process and fermented in a combination of 75-year-old
Concrete tanks and small 60 gallon new and used French and American oak barrels. All the wine was
subsequently aged in those same oak barrels for at least a year. It is this combination of old and new
techniques, the result of years of experimentation that gives our Concrete Zinfandel greater
complexity and this unique flavor profile.
TASTING NOTES:
This Zinfandel is a luscious, smooth, full-bodied wine with aromas of blackberry, bramble berry and
Allspice. Deliciously mouth-filling, the wine opens up to sweet vanilla and toasty oak flavors, then
follows with a concentrated core of well-balanced acidity, soft, but firm tannins and a lingering finish
on the palate.
FOOD PAIRING:
Concrete Old Vine Zinfandel is an excellent partner to spicy BBQ, zesty pasta and pizza, or juicy
burgers.
